PDO (polydioxanone) threads are hypodermic needles preloaded with absorbable surgical PDO sutures that are used for tightening, lifting, and smoothing skin in areas of the face and body. There are a variety of different thread textures, lengths, and thicknesses that are selected based on the patient’s skin, and the outcome desired. This minimally invasive technique produces subtle changes and stimulates collagen production in the areas that are treated with very minimal downtime. The skin fully absorbs PDO threads in 4-6 months without leaving any scar tissue. The effects of PDO threads remain for 15-18 months, at which time the procedure can be repeated. Some popular uses for PDO threads include smoothing of fine lines and wrinkles in the face and lifting of the cheeks, jawline and neck.
